I sympathize with arthur for a myriad of reasons but one of them was that he couldn’t get out of his own way when it came to dutch’s fall from grace before it was too late.

from the very beginning he was skeptical when it came to dutch’s plans, when it came to comparing the pragmatism behind said plans to the improbability of them taking shape. arthur wasn’t necessarily vocal when it came to his doubts towards dutch himself, but he found his outlets in john or other gang members to voice his concern. over what happened in blackwater. over the grandeur of his aspirations to unearth some kind of safe haven or paradise where they could disappear from civilization.

post-the trolley mission in saint denis is where arthur risks putting his hand on the stove. it’s from here on out that dutch’s composure begins to rattle, where he begins to snuff out doubt and shoot accusations. when the whole revenge plot on bronte brews arthur’s own kind of doubt, he communicates it. and not only does dutch double down on the defense, he retrofits the doubt to target arthur right back. he guilt-trips, gaslights— he does everything within his discernible power to make arthur feel bad about lacking “faith” in the man that raised him & brought him up.

arthur backpedals and basically rolls over on his belly bc…what else is he equipped to do? how could he place doubt in his mentor? the one that took him in, the one that taught him most of everything he knows? the co-dependency is what gives arthur an achilles’. it’s not that arthur can’t see the woods for the trees; he sees them most vividly. but he struggles to look at dutch’s behavior and see if it lines up with the persona he’s once projected. instinctually he sees the red flags. instinctually he hears the alarms bell sounding out dutch’s moral and ethical decadence. but he doesn’t have the toolset to navigate the space for challenging dutch’s mindset.

Inheritance Cycle Characters and their Roles in the Friend Group.

(Group One: Eragon, Arya, Orik, Nasuada)

Nasuada:

Nasuada is the leader. She is often the one to take initiative and keep everyone in line and in order. She is the first to analyze a situation and find a way out, around, or through. She is naturally inclined to be the one to step forward and give orders and direct a situation accordingly, though obviously there are times where she must lose and regain power and respect in an ongoing seesaw of politics and friendship. She sometimes gets caught up in her work and neglects relationships, but is overall a loyal friend and a smart and powerful ally. She is kind at heart, though her duties do not always allow her freedom to show it.

Orik:

Orik is rather caught in a net of three main roles. He can be the comedian and he can be social when the situation requires or allows. However, he knows when the situation requires a strong will and a good leader, and will act just as such whenever circumstances request it. He is loyal, stubborn, humorous, and occasionally hot-headed, though he tries to work this to his advantage properly.

Arya:

Arya is the realist and the outwardly level-headed, logical friend. She can be a little withdrawn at times and a bit distanced from both her more personal thoughts and those of others, but she is intelligent and a good companion to have in a stressful, dangerous, or otherwise strained environment.

Eragon:

Eragon is—sometimes reluctantly—the empath. He is forced into positions of leadership and power, but would really prefer to sit and brush the horses or watch the birds or just share company with a close friend. He is the one typically paying attention to others and how they might feel at any given time, well-attuned to each of his friends and their individual signals and needs. He is impulsive and a bit scatter-brained, but smarter than often perceived, and a man of good intentions. However, someone should really check in on his mental health for once…

What I really want right now is the logistics of Qunari horns. Do they feel things? Iron Bull described his horns as feeling "itchy" without the proper care, which could be the horns themselves or the area around the base of them and im not sure which. Also could mean itchy literally or that could just be the easiest way to describe it. If they do have nerves in them, are they very sensitive? How intimate is it for Qunari to let their partners touch their horns? Do Qunari shed their horns? Do they fall off occasionally like deer antlers? Taash says their horn is currently growing back and they get the crystal shaved as it does so. But how does that work? Will it grow back in the same shape? Is it common for that to happen? Is there an age at which their horns will not grow back if removed? Does this mean with the way the antaam leash the saarebas they constantly shave their horns back down? Is there a lot of maintenance involved in keeping them in good condition? I don't even know enough about real animal horns tbh. I should go research that and see what I come up with. Prolly starting with goat horns. Since they seem to grow in similar ways.

Actually. Thinking about it because of my last reblog, but to people who get into romantic relationships (including demiro people and such): why do people make it so awkward when an unrequited crush happens?

I've seen people end really strong friendships over the other person having feelings, but if that happened to me I feel like I'd just... be flattered? And take it as a sign that the person really likes me, and be glad? Crushes are just a form of affection, isn't it kind of the same thing as a friend telling you "I really like you as a person"?

If you wanted a relationship with them, it means you like them a lot, but just because they don't return it, you... leave?? Even though you felt that close to them?? Can people not just enjoy the feeling of having a crush and treat it as a casual thing that's just there? Why is it such a big deal. Having a crush is a pretty pleasant feeling from what people say. Just enjoy the feeling. What's the problem here

i feel like we as a fandom tend to either over uwuify klapollo or over stoicify them and this is by no means a real character analysis or genuine conversation because it is 4am for me and i’m not very good at articulating myself i don’t actually care that much i’m in fandom spaces i’m used to mischaracterising bullshit but

why does it seem to be the only options are “apollo is an actual child and klavier is sexy and suave” or “apollo doesn’t experience emotions and klavier is a cringefail babygirl”. like genuinely can they not both be people.

i feel like a lot of the infantilisng apollo stuff is partially the usual fandom short man = yaoi bottom shit but i’m not gonna sit here and pretend it isn’t also bc of the transmasc apollo headcanon. like it can’t be a coincidence that the most infantilised grown man in the game is also the one that’s most widely headcanoned as ftm. like it feels like a lot of it is your typical uwu short trans uke baby x big strong suave tall hot cis seme and i’m used to that but man it sucks to see people making weird shit about Flustered Virgin apollo getting his first ever kiss from Playboy klavier and. y’all know he’s 25 right? not 15?

there’s also the other side of things where people make klavier into this cringefail babygirl boyfailure who’s hopelessly in love with apollo and spends every waking moment thinking about apollo and can’t do anything without relating it to apollo and apollo just fucking does not like him. and that’s almost worse because at least the first kind of mischaracterisation still feels like a ship. why are we pretending apollo doesn’t care about klavier. he doesn’t like his boy band music but it’s not personal. he still likes klavier.

and then there’s the ones who take one half of the mischaracterising and applies it to both characters. apollo is an uwu baby and klavier is a soyboy and they can’t spend a second apart because they’re so in love. OR they’re both robots who might as well not even be dating with how little they speak to each other.

y’all know you can make them act normal, right? they can be in love with each other and silly about it and also be serious characters? apollo is a dork ass who cracks jokes and is bitchy but he’s also a genuinely smart guy like he’s a lawyer he’s a politician he’s helping rebuild a whole country’s legal system from the ground up and he’s still a bitch and a loser. klavier is ALSO a bitch and a loser and a smart guy. he’s kind, but he’s not a wimp. he’s bitchy but he’s not insufferable. he’s passionate about music and law and everything he talks about. and he says corny shit and openly flirts with apollo but he’s also a damn good prosecutor and id argue he’s the only one who actually understands his job without the defense having to Fix Him tm. and they can both love each other and be all these things.

for a lot of y’all there’s only two options: klavier has trauma (excruciating) (all encompassing) or klavier is silly :3. and like. he can do both. you can acknowledge his trauma and also acknowledge he’s a dumbass who air guitars during court. human beings are multifaceted and fictional characters should reflect that. you gotta make the people you’re writing feel like people yes even the japanese visual novel people.

back to the living each other thing. klavier can openly flirt with apollo and also actually like him. apollo can ignore klavier’s first flirts and still actually like him. maybe he doesn’t wanna get it with the brother of his murderous boss while investigating a crime scene i think that’s reasonable of him. but he also clearly likes and cares about klavier as a person (“i have to pull the darkness out of him” or whatever he says) so just because he didn’t immediately throw himself at klavier the second he hit him with the never felt this way with a man doesn’t mean he’s annoyed by klavier’s flirting it just means it wasn’t the right time. apollo can hate the gavineers shitty music and still love the man who sung it. he can think klavier’s office is ugly and still love him. i don’t love every single thing about the people i love but i still love them. if my qpp made a dog shit song i hated i would tell him bc he and i understand each other.
